Our Approach to Controlled Substances
We understand that many patients have had experiences with medications like Xanax, Adderall, or Ambien. Some have found relief. Others have experienced side effects or dependency. We take time to listen to your story so we can move forward with clarity and compassion.
When We Use Them
We don’t automatically prescribe controlled substances. If they are part of your plan, we’ll discuss risks and benefits, monitor closely, and adjust as needed. Your care will always include non-medication strategies and safer alternatives whenever possible.
We Reject Stigma and Build Trust
We understand that many people—especially those with a history of substance use—delay care due to stigma. At M.I.N.D. Health and Wellness, we create a space where patients are treated with dignity, not suspicion. We see the full context of your life and work with you to make informed, respectful decisions.
Safety Protocols and Policies
To reduce the risk of misuse, M.I.N.D. Health has clear safeguards in place:
- Refills are only provided if appointments are kept. Early refills or replacements due to loss or misuse are not permitted.
- Prescriptions are limited to a maximum 30-day supply.
- In-person evaluations may be required before prescribing a controlled substance.
- State Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs) are used to review your prescription history.
- We may conduct random pill counts and urine drug screenings as part of ongoing safety monitoring.
These policies are not about distrust—they’re about protecting your health and ensuring responsible use.
Our Goal: Relief with Responsibility
Controlled substances are sometimes appropriate, but they are never the full answer. Our goal is to help you feel better in a way that’s safe, effective, and sustainable. Whether you’re starting, continuing, or stepping down from a controlled medication, we’re here to guide you—always with your long-term health in mind.
